September 2, FEVE (European Container Glass Federation) attended the public hearing hosted by the European Parliament committees on International Trade (INTA), Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE), and Internal Market and Consumer Protection (IMCO), at the European Parliament on the proposed Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA).
The message from the hearing was clear: Europe needs a stronger IAA to accelerate decarbonisation, strengthen European preference and protect the competitiveness of its industries. Stakeholders also called for a more focused approach to “European equivalent” partners, limited to the EU27 and neighbouring countries.
FEVE welcomes the renewed focus on industrial policy and supports a strong IAA that recognises the strategic role of glass and enables competitive decarbonisation.
But the IAA cannot do it alone. Europe also needs to tackle high energy and carbon costs to create the right conditions for competitive, low-carbon industry
