30 October 1997: The European Union“s Council of Ministers agreed on 13 October to remove anti-dumping duties of up to 13.9% (in force since 1995) on imports of soda ash from the United States. The decision came after major European producers, representing about 80% of the EU production of soda ash withdrew their support for the anti-dumping measures. Four US producers, FMC Corporation, General Chemical (Soda Ash) Partners, North American Chemical Co. and OCI Chemcial Corporation had called for the European Commission a to review the duties in July 1996.
