Since introducing its glass bonding system to the North American Automotive OEM Industry in 2003, EFTEC North America, L.L.C., has helped bond glass parts to body openings in almost 500,000 new vehicles. The glass parts, which typically include windshields, backlites, fixed liftgates and quarterlites, will be installed on the 500,000th vehicle in early March 2005. “EFTEC is thrilled to have reached such an important milestone so quickly in our North American OEM sales efforts,” said Joe Renzi, Sales and Marketing Manager, EFTEC Aftermarket. “Accomplishing this milestone is a tribute to the superior nature of EFTEC adhesives, something European and Asian manufacturers have known for years.” The first EFTEC glass bonding system was installed in August 2003 for use on 2004 Chevy Malibu Classic and Pontiac Grand Am. Since then, EFTEC bonding systems have been installed and used on the Dodge Ram and Cadillac CTS, STS and SRX. “We“re moving aggressively to position EFTEC with the remaining North American brands and expect to make further inroads,” Renzi said. Internationally, automotive companies using EFTEC adhesives include Audi, Volkswagen, Ford, GM/Opel, Nissan/Subaru and Volvo. The primary adhesive used by North American OEMs is EFBOND(TM) EF7020, which is a one-component, room-temperature applied, moisture-cured, black polyurethane adhesive. EF7020 can be used, with or without a metal primer, to bond glass parts to specific paint systems on a vehicle body. The product comes in 54-gallon drums for OEMs and in 10.5-ounce tubes for aftermarket installations and is sold under the product number D-501HV. DINITROL D-501HV is a high-viscosity, good-decking, quick curing, solvent-free urethane, and meets all applicable FMVSS. This product comes in 10.5-ounce cartridges and 20.3-ounce foil wrap options. EFTEC North America L.L.C. was created in 1997 as a joint venture between EMS-CHEMIE Holding AG, Zurich, Switzerland, and H.B. Fuller Company, St. Paul, Minn. EFTEC is focused on value-added solutions for the automotive industry. EFTEC North America and EFTEC Aftermarket are located in Madison Heights, Michigan.
