Executives of US chemical firm DuPont met General Alexander Lebed, a political rival of Russian President Boris Yeltsin, in Delaware, US, last week. Lebed had an hour-long meeting with DuPont Chief Executive Jack Krol and the chairman of DuPont Europe, Jerry Blumberg. The general was en route to New York after the inauguration of President Bill Clinton in Washington on 20 January. According to Kathy Forte of DuPont, it was an unofficial courtesy visit initiated by the general, who opposed Yeltsin in last year“s presidential election, only to become one of his advisers for a brief time after the ballot. “He wanted to provide insights regarding the general climate for private investment in Russia. Russia is an important country for DuPont“s growth. We have offices in Moscow and have established a business presence in Russia for a number of our businesses,” she said.
