The South Korean company, Doosan Techpack Co. announced that it will begin to sell the country“s first germ-resistant glass cups. It will apply germ killing material to the surface of its glass cups in order to keep down the amount of human bacteria, such as colitis, that remain on the cup. Doosan also claims that laboratory tests revealed that 99.9% or more of the bacteria found on the surface of these special cups were eliminated within 24 hours. Company officials added that as long as customers do not use rough scrubbing brushes or chemicals that erode the glass, the anti-germ cups could be used almost indefinitely. Doosan plans to attach stickers to its cups to distinguish them from ordinary products. The company did not explain the nature of its “germ killing material,” nor whether or not bacteria commonly found on cups is actually harmful to humans.
