The US automotive glass supplier Donnelly Corporation has been named a General Motors Supplier of the Year for the second year in a row. The award recognises Donnelly“s performance in producing interior mirrors for various GM vehicles, and places the company among those GM calls “the best of the best.” From more than 30,000 suppliers worldwide, GM selected only 173 to receive the honour for 1996. Teams of GM specialists in purchasing, quality, engineering and manufacturing targeted this handful of suppliers as the few companies that consistently met or exceeded GM“s performance standards in the areas of quality, service and price. “To be among the handful of GM“s top suppliers is quite an accomplishment,” said Ron VandenBerg, vice president of Donnelly“s GM business unit. “But to win the honour two consecutive years proves Donnelly“s continued dedication to serving its customers. Every day the hurdles are getting higher, and so is our level of performance.” Dwane Baumgardner, Donnelly president and chief executive officer, accepted the award for the company at the official ceremony held on 17 May in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. GM officials are scheduled to visit Donnelly“s Holland, Michigan, US, operations in June to make an award presentation to employees.
