The US automotive glass supplier Donnelly Corp. said that it has formed a new joint venture in Brazil to produce interior and exterior mirrors for the growing South American automotive industry. The venture is called Donnelly/Arteb Ltd., and will be based in Sao Paulo. It will be 50% owned by Donnelly and 50% by Industrias Arteb SA, a Brazilian manufacturer of automotive headlights and rear lights. Arteb is also based in Sao Paulo, and had 1996 sales of more than US$ 90 million. The company reportedly has strong customer contacts in South America and employs advanced lean manufacturing processes in combination with a number of sophisticated technical competencies. Operations should start during the first half of 1998.
