14 May 1998: US-based Donnelly Corp. said recently that General Motors Corp. has awarded commitments to the supplier to make outside mirrors for 12 different models through the year 2002. “Donnelly brings to the table more design, engineering and manufacturing capabilities for automotive mirrors than any other company in the world, and it is exciting to be able to see our products move into this exciting range of GM vehicles,” said Ron VandenBerg, group vice president for Donnelly“s GM business unit. The Holland, Michigan, automotive supplier declined to reveal the value of the commitments, but said it was one of the largest in Donnelly“s history. Although final decisions have not been made, Donnelly said it expects to make the mirrors at its plants in western Michigan. Production has begun on mirrors for some of the models, while others will begin over the next several years, Donnelly spokesman Randy Boileau said.
