22 April 1999: US-based international producer of components and systems in automotive mirrors, windows, door handles and interior trim and lighting, Donnelly Corporation, has announced that its Board of Directors declared a quarterly dividend of US$ 0.10 per share on its Class A Common Stock. The dividend will be paid on 1 July 1999 to shareholders of record at the close of business on 15 June 1999. Meanwhile, General Motors Worldwide Purchasing has named Donnelly Corporation a GM Supplier of the Year for 1998. A four-time award winner, Donnelly produces interior and exterior mirror systems, window systems and handles for GM. Donnelly was first named a GM Supplier of the Year for 1995, and is one of only 29 companies to receive the honour four times. The award recognizes Donnelly“s outstanding performance in the areas of quality, service, price and, new for 1998, technology. “By adding technology to the criteria this year, GM has stressed the ongoing need for new ideas and innovations,” said Dwane Baumgardner, Donnelly chairman and chief executive officer. “That“s why I“m particularly proud that we have a long history of introducing new technologies to the automaker.” The Supplier of the Year is the most prestigious award given by GM, said Donnelly in a company press release. Only companies that have achieved world-class levels of performance receive the honour. In fact, GM selected just 184 companies from its base of more than 30,000 suppliers to win the award for 1998. “I think Donnelly is viewed very well at GM, considering the different functional areas that have a say in whether or not a company is chosen for Supplier of the Year,” said Robert E. Socia, executive director, worldwide purchasing, chemical. “When selecting companies for the award, we canvass every corner of the organization that interfaces with the supplier, including manufacturing, engineering, supplier quality and purchasing. It“s a fairly extensive evaluation process that we go through, with input from North America, South America, Asia-Pacific and Europe. We make sure everyone at GM is satisfied with a company“s overall performance.” GM began the Supplier of the Year Award in Germany over 20 years ago. The award was expanded to include all of Europe in 1989, and became an international award in 1992. Along with this year“s other North American winners, Donnelly will accept the award on 5 May at a ceremony in Detroit, Michigan.
