Donnelly Corporation, the US technology-driven, customer-focused automotive supplier based in Holland, Michigan, announced that it has taken the next step in streamlining its European mirror manufacturing capacity. The company has finalized its agreement with diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation to sell certain actuator assets of Donnelly subsidiary Donnelly Vision Systems Europe Ltd. located in Manorhamilton, Ireland. The subsidiary currently manufactures mirrors and mirror actuators. Dwane Baumgardner, chairman and chief executive officer of Donnelly Corporation, said the strategic agreement with Eaton in Manorhamilton will enable the company to continue meeting the needs of its European customers while reducing costs. Under the agreement, Eaton will assume control and responsibility for manufacturing a Donnelly actuator currently used on certain vehicles in Europe. Donnelly will move the remaining portion of its Manorhamilton mirror operations to other Donnelly locations in Europe. The automotive supplier also serves European customers through its other mirror manufacturing facilities in Ireland, East Germany and Spain. “The relationship with Eaton supports Donnelly“s global strategy to balance outside supply and inside development and manufacturing of mirror glass actuators,” said Mark Stidham, global vice president of Engineering and Marketing. “We will continue to move forward our technology and know-how related to glass actuators through aggressive internal development, but we will achieve an appropriate “make or buy“ balance utilizing outstanding suppliers such as Eaton.”
