28 May 1998: German refractory materials manufacturer, Didier-Werke AG, seems to be on the road to recovery, reports say, after years of turbulence following its acquisition by Austria“s refractory products company Veitsch-Radex AG and restructuring. According to an interim report, group turnover has risen 27% to DM 399 million in the first quarter of 1998 compared to the same period last year. Net operating profits were DM 10.2 million after a deficit of DM 3.9 million in the first quarter of 1997. Ordinary operating profits were DM 7.8 million. At the end of March, the group had 4,761 employees. Veitsch-Radex now has an 88.6% stake in the the company.
