2 April 1998: Didier-Werke, the German refractory materials maker, announced its figures for calendar 1997. Group net profit was reported at DM 11.3 million, while group income from ordinary activities was DM 25.8 million compared with DM 31.1 million. Group sales were at DM 1.48 billion compared with DM 1.28 billion. Didier-Werke said that due to the negative profit situation at parent company level, it could not make a dividend payout, but that its major shareholder, Veitsch-Radex AG, would make a dividend payout of two marks per share on its behalf. The company added that Veitsch-Radex would also carry any tax costs associated with the payout. It said the drop in net profit was mostly due to unsatisfactory results in North America.
