28 August 1998: Germany“s Didier-Werke announced its results for the first half of 1998. Group sales were up 14% at DM 790 million. Group operating profit was up 200% at DM 30.6 million. Group net profit was at DM 18.1 million vs. DM 0.2 million of the same period a year earlier. Didier-Werke said gains in profit stemmed from sales growth and an improved cost structure. It also said sales gains in western Europe and North America more than offset weakness in Asia/Pacific in its fireproof goods division. “This half-year result confirms the Didier management board“s confidence that it will achieve full-year 1998 net profit that is clearly higher than the previous year“s level,” the company said in a statement.
