Dartington Crystal“s newly appointed design manager, Simon Moore, feels that the retail crystal trade is “awash” with “bland-looking” products. In his 22 years of design experience, Moore has tutored at the Royal College of Art and has also exhibited at London“s Victoria and Albert Museum. He now says he intends to push the Dartington collection ahead by creating new products which will highlight the company as one of the key crystal manufacturers in Europe. According to Moore, with most of the glassmaking industry fighting a price war, design has been left alone. “The design process must now play a vital role in bringing together new manufacturing techniques, the qualities of material and inviting shapes and design,” he said.
