10 September 1998: The UK“s Darby group, a tempered glass producer, increased pre-tax profits by 8.4% to UK 1.3 million in the six months to 30 June. The company said that sales and margins had been hit by disruption resulting from the replacement of two old furnaces at sites in Gloucester and Scunthorpe (England). Meanwhile, it warned that it had seen signs of a slowdown in trading activity during the third quarter. Sales were up 19% at UK 12.4 million.
