23 October 1997: Earlier this month, the leading UK glass processor, the Darby Group, announced the purchase of Seal Units (Norwich) Limited, a privately owned manufacturer of insulating glass units based in the city of Norwich, for a cash consideration of UK 90,000. The acquisition, which Darby claims will be immediately earnings enhancing, provides the group with a manufacturing base in the East Anglia region, thereby facilitating the development of a geographical area in which its current presence is limited. Initially, Darby intends to expand the existing range of insulating glass products manufactured by Seal Units (Norwich) Limited. It will also use the new location as a distribution centre for its Rapid Delivery Service, providing a wide range of tempered glass products manufactured elsewhere within the group. Major investment is planned for the Norwich site in the medium term.
