The Board of Darby Group Plc, one of the UK“s major independent glass processors, has recently completed the UK 0.45 million purchase, of Deltaglas Limited, a privately-owned manufacturer of insulating glass unit products, based at Ashton-under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, UK. Deltaglas represents an important strategic move for Darby by giving the Group a presence in the North West. At the moment the company is under-represented in this geographical area. Darby plans to expand the existing range of insulating glass unit products and to use Deltaglas to develop its business throughout north-west England. Darby will shortly begin using Deltaglas as a distribution point for its existing range of tempered glass products, manufactured elsewhere within the Group. It will also enable the introduction of the Group“s Rapid Delivery Service (RDS) – the guaranteed overnight delivery of glass products – throughout the north west for the first time. During the 12 month period to April 1997 Deltaglas made a profit before taxation of UK 120,000 on sales of approximately UK 1 million. Profits next year will benefit from Darby“s greater raw material purchasing power and, with time, from the commissioning of the new glass tempering capacity at Deltaglas. Darby“s Chairman Michael Darby said that this acquisition will help increase the sales in the north west from UK 1 million to at least UK 5 million within the next two years.
