29 December 1997: Continuing the series of conferences which began in 1967, the Czech Glass Society has announced the organisation, in collaboration with the House of Technology “st“ sro, of the “11th Conference on Electric and Other Highly Efficient Ways of Glass Melting”. The conference will take place from 8-9 September 1998 in the Czech Republic town of Podebrady. On the agenda will be: – the usage of electricity for glass heating (by means of direct passage, heating elements, and alternatives such as inductive, arch, microwave and plasma technology); – oxygen usage during combustion (heat transfer, interaction with refractories and glass melt, usage of waste heat, burners, connection and oxygen storage); – other ways of glass melting (fluid bed, cyclone furnaces, tangential furnaces, submerged combustion, solar furnaces, vitrification furnaces); – regeneration enhancement of waste heat (including reforming of natural gas, pre-heating of cullet and bath, heat pumps, use of liquid metals as heat carriers, usage of waste heat for energy production); – glass melting economy (energy price comparison and prognosis, investment exactness). The conference languages will be Czech and English and the conference chairman is Ing. Josef Smrcek, Csc, of Vusu as. Papers, applications and enquiries should be sent to: Dum techniky “st“ sro, Ms. Ivana Lukesova, Veleslavinova 14, 400 21 “st“ nad Labem, Czech Republic fax: +420-47-46234
