Italian bent and safety glass manufacturer Curvet will be operating at maximum capacity from March 2004 at its plant near Mieres (Asturias, north Spain). The company has finished trials of the new bending furnace which will be installed at the plant and is currently resolving the final details for the transportation of the furnace. The furnace is vital for producing highly curved glass, such as is required for shower cubicles, display freezers for retail use or moulded parts for extractor hoods. Curvet is counting on annual output of 250,000 pieces of domestic glass at the plant, which it shares with Rioglass. The firm plans to expand into the Spanish and Portuguese markets, with the Mieres facility as the distribution point for the whole Iberian peninsular. At present, the company is using the Rioglass furnace in order to avoid delays.
