France“s Cristalleries Royales de Champagne, established in 1666 at Bayel, France, is optimistic about its future. Although a job reduction programme has been at the planning stage for over a year, the company management said that Cristalleries should be able to double its export turnover within five years thanks to its entering new markets in the United States and Japan. Cristalleries employs 200 people and has been part of the Italian group Borgosesia since 1991. Turnover at Cristalleries in 1996 was FFr 50 million and the company showed a net loss of FFr 5 million. A 10% increase in turnover is forecast for this year, and the company hopes to break even.
