The Crimean Soda Plant (Krasnoperekopsk, Crimea), the major producer of soda ash in Ukraine, finished the first quarter with a net profit of UAK 3.595 million, the plant“s General Director Kyryll Trandafil said, adding that the increase in profits compared with the first quarter of 2001 is connected with a reduction of expenses for production, due to the reduction of expenses. The plant finished the first quarter of 2001 with a net profit of UAK 0.972 million, and soda ash production at the level of January-March 2001, or at 130 thousand tons. In 2001, the plant produced 523 thousand tons of soda ash, which is 1.6% more than in 2000. The plant reported UAK 12.67 million in profits for the year 2001. The Crimean Soda Plant accounts for 80.5% of all the soda made in Ukraine, and exports 60% of its products. According to data of the State Commission for Securities and the Stock Market, the Interregional Stock Union is a nominal holder of a 92% stake in the plant.
