Over the first 10 months of 2000, the Ukrainian chemical industry as a whole reported a 9.5% increase in output compared to the same period in 1999. There was above-average growth in soda ash volumes (+21%) and also in the production of fibreglass (+100%). Ukraine“s biggest producer of soda ash, Crimea Soda Plant, in which the state holds an 89.47% state, reported a 10% increase in its pre-tax profit for the first 10 months of 2000 to 24.5 million hryvnas. Production in the period increased 26.35% to 426,000 tonnes, with sales totalling 175.5 million hryvnas, up 23.1%. Exports represented 13.3% of total sales, up from a figure of 6.3% for the first 10 months of 1999. Crimea Soda Plant is the only plant to produce A-brand exportable soda ash; its main markets are Italy, Poland, Russia, Estonia, and Lithuania. Soda ash production at Crimea Soda Plant accounted for 80% of the national total.
