US producer of solar control window films CPFilms“ business unit of Solutia is expanding its vacuum coating capability by installing a state-of-the-art wide-width high speed sputtering machine at its Martinsville, US site. The new machine will enable metallic and reactive deposition and multi-layer stacking on films from thicknesses of 0.5 mm to 10 mm and widths up to 72 inches. The new machinery features state-of-the-art, on-line monitoring systems, enhanced deposition uniformity and the latest in process control software. It is aimed at the more sophisticated solar control film markets and high-quality precision coatings market for the electronic display markets and markets where high precision metallic, alloy or oxide coatings are required. Ken Vickers, President & CEO of CPFilms, commented that this investment is part of Solutia“s desire to continue to invest in its growth business and CPFilms“ strategy of retaining its technology leadership in the markets that it serves. The machine was expected to be fully operational in September 2002.
