Cosmos Bottling Corp., the Philippine soft-drink manufacturing unit of food and beverage group RFM Corp., recently posted a 33% growth in net sales to PHP 5.6 billion in the nine-month period to September from the year-ago level of PHP 4.2 billion. The company said its latest net sales figure is the highest it has recorded. Cosmos chairman and chief executive Jose Concepcion gave a lot of credit to the aggressive marketing campaign launched by the company to promote its flagship brand, Pop Cola. “We definitely hit the right marketing campaign and brand positioning,” said Concepcion, noting the brand appealed to local tastes at the expense of foreign brands. Concepcion said Cosmos also launched a separate campaign for its Sarsi root beer brand that enabled the product to establish its own share of the local soft-drink market. “Our investments on these brands are paying off as they tremendously helped in bringing in the sales,” said Concepcion. RFM is currently in the final stages of talks for the sale of Cosmos to food and beverage conglomerate San Miguel Corp.
