Corning announced on 28 September 2006 that about 35 workers have been temporarily laid off at its Pittsburgh Corning glass block plant. Rumours that the company might outsource the work were denied by human resources director Don Tanner. Bankrupt Pittsburgh Corning, a joint venture between PPG Industries Inc. and Corning Inc., has been making glass blocks at the plant since 1938.
