Global optical fiber leader Corning is supplying optical fiber to India“s Tata Teleservices Limited and Videsh Sanchar Nigam Limited, the subcontinent“s largest international service provider. The two carriers are working together to lay fiber along “a major portion” of their high-speed national, long-distance network; no financial details were disclosed. The fiber-optic cable from Corning will contain up to 20,000 kilometers of LEAF fiber and 100,000 kilometers of SMF-28 fiber. “TTL and VSNL“s investment in this nationwide, long- distance network will enhance the position of both companies in national and international fixed-line telephony, wireless local loop mobile telephony, and broadband data services,” says Ajay Madan, Tata“s chief technology officer.
