Glass and ceramic maker Corning Inc. has announced that its president and chief operating officer, Peter F. Volanakis, will retire by the end of 2010. Volanakis, 55, who has worked with the company for 28 years, will work as an adviser as of 1 September until he retires. Division managers of the company will report directly to Chairman and CEO Wendell P. Weeks. According to Corning, Volanakis will step down as a director of Dow Corning Corp. during the fourth quarter, and as a Corning Inc. director in December.
