Corning Precision Lens (CPL), a wholly-owned subsidiary of Corning Incorporated, in connection with its micro-display business, has acquired the assets and intellectual property of liquid-crystal display (LCD) technology firm Lightware Inc. CPL has also hired all of Lightware“s product development engineers. “The additional engineering talent will allow CPL to address multiple technology paths simultaneously in micro-display rear-projection system development,” said Dave Szkutak, president and CEO of CPL. The engineering personnel acquired from Lightware will remain at the organization“s design centre in Portland, Oregon. Fred Engstrom (formerly vice president of Lightware Engineering) and Arlie Conner (formerly vice president and co-founder of Lightware) have accepted positions with CPL as director, Portland Design Centre and Principal Optical Scientist, respectively.
