Corning Inc. reported on 19 October 2009 that its LCD glass factory in Taichung, Taiwan, expected the recent power loss to have a “material” effect on production in the fourth quarter. According to the company, fourth-quarter glass production could equal that of the third quarter or be a little less. Prior to the power outage, Corning had expected an increase of as much as 5%. Several glass melting tanks were shut down due to the outage, and the company is presently determining how much glass melting capacity was affected and how long it will take to repair the tanks. It will, however take several days to know the full extent of the disruption, but most of the production capacity is still intact.
