Corning: new independent director

Corning Incorporated has announced that Kurt M. Landgraf, president and chief executive officer of Educational Testing Service (ETS), was appointed to the company“s board of directors on 6 June 2007….

Corning Incorporated has announced that Kurt M. Landgraf, president and chief executive officer of Educational Testing Service (ETS), was appointed to the company“s board of directors on 6 June 2007. The Corning board also determined that he qualifies as an independent director. He will serve on the Corning board effective immediately. Mr. Landgraf will hold office until Corning“s annual meeting of shareholders on 24 April 2008, when it is expected that he will be nominated to serve a three-year term. His appointment brings the number of Corning directors to 16. The size of the board has ranged from 13 to 18 directors since 1990. Mr. Landgraf, 60, brings a broad financial and operational perspective to the Corning board. He joined ETS in 2000 as president and CEO. For the preceding 30 years he was with DuPont, where he held a number of senior leadership positions, including chief operating officer, chief financial officer, Chairman of DuPont Europe and Chairman of DuPont Pharmaceuticals. Landgraf was also president and CEO of the DuPont Merck Pharmaceutical Company. Mr. Landgraf is a director of ETS, IKON Office Solutions and Louisiana-Pacific. He graduated from Wagner College with a B.S. degree in economics. He holds masters“ degrees from Western Michigan University, Rutgers University and Pennsylvania State University.
