From fanciful dragons to Tiffany flowers, the 46th Annual Seminar on Glass at The Corning Museum of Glass, to take place on 11-13 October 2007, will explore the wonders of nature reflected in glass. Experts on glass, including curators from the Museum, will present lectures on a variety of topics. The Blaschkas“ incredibly delicate and realistic botanical and sea creature models exhibited in the Museum“s major summer exhibition, “Botanical Wonders”, will be a special focus. Besides exploring the Blaschkas“ work, lectures will also include naturalism and Art Nouveau, and reflections of nature in contemporary glass. In addition to a series of expert lectures, participants will have opportunities to make their own glass, observe historical flameworking demonstrations, and see contemporary artists giving demonstrations in The Studio. Speakers will include Scott Fulton, conservator, Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology, Harvard University; Paul Greenhalgh, director and president of Corcoran Gallery of Art and College of Art + Design; Lindsy R. Parrott, collections manager and associate curator, Neustadt Collection of Tiffany Glass; and Susan Rossi-Wilcox, curatorial associate and administrator for the Glass Flowers Collection, Harvard University Herbaria, and co-curator of the Corning Museum“s major summer exhibition, “Botanical Wonders”.
