The US group Corning Incorporated recently announced the election of James B. Flaws to the position of vice president-Finance and also as Treasurer, and Kathy A. Asbeck to the position of vice president and controller. As vice president-Finance, Mr. Flaws will be responsible for the overall finance function of the company. Mr. Flaws, 48, joined Corning in 1973 as a financial analyst in the International Division. In 1983, he was appointed director, Finance and Administration-Corning Consumer Products Division. In 1988, he was named division vice president, Business Development-Consumer Products and in 1990 he was named vice president and chief financial officer-Corning Consumer Products Company. He was elected assistant treasurer-Corning Incorporated in 1993 and vice president and controller-Corning Incorporated in 1997. In addition to her new position, Ms. Asbeck, 40, will retain her role as the Chief Accounting Officer of the company. Ms. Asbeck joined Corning in 1991 as director of external reporting and accounting policy. In 1993, she was appointed assistant controller and in 1994 was named chief accounting officer. She was appointed division vice president in 1997.
