Corning Inc. president and CEO Wendell P. Weeks attended a luncheon to honor 133 retirees for their contribution over many years to the company. One hundred and twenty-nine 50-year retirees each received a check for USD 1,000; the four 75-year retirees each received a check for USD 2,500. The luncheon on 21 June 2006 at the Corning Museum of Glass honored employees of the company“s plants at Corning area, Bradford, and Charleroi (both in Pennsylvania). Mr. Weeks thanked the retirees for their commitment and service. “As we look to the future, we also honor our past”, he said. “We stand today on the shoulders of those who came before us”. Weeks also updated the retirees on the company“s progress and prospects. “We are confident that our portfolio includes enough great ideas to drive growth in to the future”, he said. “We“re growing again, we“re profitable, we“re keeping the balance sheet strong, and we“re setting ourselves up for future success”.
