Corning is looking at double-digit growth in India. The Indian operation of the US-based glass major, which operates independently from joint ventures Owens Corning and Samcor Glass, has boosted its operations during the last year with a four-fold increase in its workforce . Corning is now exploring the possibility of manufacturing some of its products in India, as well as setting up a research and development unit. Aseem Sharma, president of Corning International-India, said, “We are looking at 30% plus growth rates in some of our businesses here. Apart from our traditional association with the telecom industry with optic fibres, we are also looking at emerging opportunities like life sciences, ophthalmic lenses and the automotive segment.” The company is generating revenues in the region of INR 1.3 billion in India, which is growing at 20-30%. Though all the staff at the Indian arm of Corning are involved in sales and marketing of imported products, the company is also looking at opportunities in research and development in the future.
