15 January 1998: Canadian operation Consumers Packaging Inc. recently reached an agreement with the United Steelworkers of America at the Brampton Plant, resulting in the cessation of strike activities and entering into the renewal of a Collective Agreement for three-and-a-half years. Activities taken by Consumers to shut down operations at its Brampton plant have ceased and it is expected to be in full production by February 1998, after some furnace repairs and upgrades are completed. The agreement reached was principally achieved as a result of the personal involvement and commitments given to the Company by Harry Hynd, Director District 6 and Don Clifford, Business Agent, The United Steelworkers of America, to work with management to improve relationships at the Brampton plant so that it will continue to operate as a world class manufacturer of glass containers.
