8 January 1998: Mr. Kenneth Cloud has been appointed president of the Canadian firm Consumers Packaging after having worked for US-based Ball-Foster Container Co. since 1981, most recently as its vice-president of manufacturing. John Ghaznavi remains Consumers chairman and chief executive. Cloud is the fourth senior official to make such a move. Last year, Ball-Foster sued US-based Anchor Glass Container Corp., a Consumers subsidiary, after three executives left to join Anchor. Ball-Foster said the executives possessed “trade secrets” that prevented them from taking similar jobs within the same industry. Ball-Foster got a temporary restraining order from a US judge in June preventing the executives from assuming their new jobs, but the matter was settled in July and the three took up their positions at Anchor. Consumers diversified in December, acquiring Pet-Pak Containers, which makes plastic packaging for the liquor, food, beverage, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals industries.
