Shenzhen-listed China Southern Glass (CSG) Holding Co., Ltd. has signed contracts for high-purity polycrystalline silicon and solar battery projects in Yichang City, central China. It is the company“s largest investment since its foundation. The projects, to be built in three phases, will cover an area of 100 hectares and require a total investment of about CNY 6 billion. On completion, the two projects will generate annual sales of about CNY 10 billion. CSG Holding announced on 23 May 2006 that it planned the phased construction of a polycrystalline silicon project with an annual capacity of 4,500-5,000 tons. The company first contacted the government of Yichang City in February 2006 and the deal was finalized in less than four months.
