At an industrial conference late last year, Shi Wanpeng, China“s deputy minister of the state economic and trade commission, outlined the nation“s macro control targets for the eight major industries of textiles, metallurgy, coal, petrochemicals, sugar making, building materials, electric power and pharmaceuticals. Plans for the building materials industry include keeping output of flat glass to within 170 million weight crates and closing down 100 small glass production lines. The restrictions are designed to curb over-production.
