The Ceylon Glass Company, a Sri Lankan unit of Gujarat Glass Company, said it plans to increase exports from Colombo to about 25% of their total sales within a year by investing in technology. The Sri Lankan firm, which is 54%-owned by Gujarat Glass, said it has launched a new export drive and hoped to invest in technology to boost production. Exports currently accounted for about 4-5% of the firm“s annual sales. “We intend to invest not only in increasing capacity but also in new technology,” said company president Rajiv Prasad, adding “we need to increase the production to be able to meet the increase in export demand.” He said high energy and raw material costs were affecting profitability.
