Brazilian-based glass maker Companhia Brasileira de Cristal (Cebrace), a joint venture between UK glass maker Pilkington and France“s Saint-Gobain, has invested USD 120 million (EUR 98.08 million) in its plant in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina. The plant, built in Barra Velha, will mainly make flat glass. Most of the investment came from the two companies, while the remainder was provided by the Brazilian National Social and Economic Development Bank (BNDES). The city of Barra Velha was chosen because of its proximity to the ports of Itajai and Sao Francisco do Sul, which will facilitate exports. The plant will have a capacity to make 200,000 tonnes of flat glass per year.
