14 January 1999: Hungarian optical products maker Carl Zeiss invested a sum of HFt 1.5 billion in a plant upgrading in Mateszalka, HFt 250 million of which was granted by the local rural development fund and other resources, a recent press report has said. Sixty new workplaces will be created said Tibor Karpati technical director, and a new production line is to be installed as part of a development programme carried out to improve on the production of glass and plastic lenses. By the end of the year other optical products will be produced as well. In 1998 Carl Zeiss made products in the value of HFt 3 billion and plans to raise its production by 40% this year.
