Enzo Urbani, CEO of Italian crystal products maker Cristalleria Artistica La Piana SpA (CALP), has presented a new development plan to relaunch the firm“s activities and conquer new markets. CALP, based in Colle Val d“Elsa, northern Italy, is emerging from a difficult period: the firm forecasts a loss of EUR 7.5 million (USD 9.5 million) for 2006 and a consolidated turnover of EUR 50 million (USD 63.5 million). In 2007, losses are expected to fall and turnover to rise. The company expects to break even in 2008. CALP“s management pledged that there would be no job cuts or production transfers. New commercial strategies for the brands RCR (Royal Cristal Roc) and Da Vinci Crystal have been presented, along with plans for the launch of new products, such as the Free Life crystal interior design range. The company will also start making items for everyday use from a new type of superior quality glass, which unlike crystal contains no lead oxide. CALP accounts for 90% of Italy“s output and for 15% of the worldwide output of crystal.
