Soda ash producer Solvay Sodi in Devnya, eastern Bulgaria, posted a profit of BGL 18.5 million (USD 11 million/EUR9.5 million) for 2002. The company shareholders“ meeting agreed to use BGL 17.1 million (USD 10.2 million/EUR 8.8 million) of the profit to pay a dividend of BGL 17.14 (USD 10.2/EUR 8.8) per share. The remaining BGL 1.4 million (USD 832,000/EUR 720,000) of the profit will be retained. Solvay Sodi is majority controlled by Vienna-registered Solvay Sisecam Holding, which includes Turkish glass manufacturer Sisecam and Belgian chemicals and pharmaceuticals company Solvay. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development also holds a stake in Solvay Sodi. Solvay Sodi produces light and dense, bulk and packaged soda ash. Its annual production capacity is 1.2 million tonnes of light soda ash. About 800,000 tonnes of its light soda ash output are processed into dense soda ash. Solvay Sodi exports about 90% of its output.
