12 February 1998: On 5 February, the trade defence department (Decom) of Brazil“s Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism (MICT) was expected to release an opinion on the existence of a dumping practice in the import of soda ash. Companhia Nacional de Alcalis (CNA), Brazil“s only soda ash producer, filed a request for an anti-dumping provision in 1996, asking for the elevation of the import rate from the current 10% to 20% in the case of dense soda ash and to 100% for purchases of light soda ash. Interested parties will be invited to express opinions on the findings of the Decom and a final decision on enforcement of a ruling will be made in the middle of March.
