A positive outlook for growth in the Brazilian civil construction sector in 2006 should help boost the domestic flat glass industry, said the Brazilian Association of Flat Glass Manufacturers and Distributors (Andiv), as 65% of the total domestic glass output goes into the construction segment. Furthermore, the glass sector has benefited from a package of incentives for the construction sector announced by the government earlier in 2006, which included a lowering of the Industrial Products Tax (IPI), from 10% to 5%. Brazil has 250 flat glass processing companies and according to Andiv, the sector as a whole employs one million people, direct and indirectly.
