Italian container glass group Bormioli Rocco & Figlio is about to close its Verreries du Gier factory in France, according to trade unions. The labour representatives cited press reports on Bormioli Rocco“s plans to restructure its French operations, following rationalisation already carried out in Italy and Germany. The Verreries du Gier plant employs three hundred. According to the union sources, VdG could close its doors at the beginning of 2004. Bormioli intends to transfer production from VdG to its French factory at Chapelle-Saint-Mesmin. In 2002 the French subsidiary posted turnover of EUR 94 million but a 10% fall is expected for 2003.
