US-based leading gases company BOC recently announced the first US placement of its Burnjector technology, an advanced, chemical energy injection system for the Electric Arc Furnace, at a Delaware, US carbon plate steel mill, CitiSteel. The BOC Burnjector has a pioneering nozzle technology that is part of a patented system, and that includes a supersonic flame shroud surrounding supersonic streams of oxygen and carbon. BOC claims that this technology enables the Burnjector to maintain its narrow, concentrated and powerful jet-stream for as much as three times the distance of systems using sub-sonic shrouding. BOC claims that its Burnjector system enhances the energy efficiency, productivity, environmental performance and safety of the steel-making process. BOC is also providing related products and energy expertise and will continue to supply CitiSteel with oxygen, nitrogen and argon from its nearby air separation unit.
