21 May 1998: The leading polycarbonate producers Bayer and General Electric Plastics (GEP) are reportedly aiming to capture the market for automotive windows. The 50:50 joint venture, Exatec, has allocated about US$ 40 million to finance the introduction of polycarbonate products, which will take place in stages in the period to 2003. Exatec is to focus its activities initially on small fixed side windows. A pilot production plant is to open at Wixom, Michigan (US) at the end of 1998. Full production is scheduled for about 2003.
