Portuguese glass manufacturer Barbosa & Almeida posted a profit of EUR 478,520 for the first quarter of 2002, the company said on 24April 2002, recovering from a loss of EUR 2.6 million in the first quarter of 2001. Earnings per share reached EUR 0.06 in the first quarter of 2002 from EUR 0.35 loss per share in the same period of 2001. The company“s operating profit reached EUR 1.23 million for the first quarter of 2002 compared to a EUR 852,570 operating loss for the same period of 2001. Barbosa & Almeida reduced its long-term debt by 29.3% year-on-year to EUR 64.1 million and its short-term debt by 2.0% to EUR 98.2 million in the first three months of 2002. The company“s consolidated sales increased by 11.9% year-on-year to EUR 39.1 million in the first quarter of 2002.
