Baotek Industrial Materials, a Taiwan-based manufacturer of fiberglass fabrics and yarns for PCB bonding sheets and laminates, is set to increase its production capacity for fiberglass fabrics from the current monthly level of 4.5-5 million units to 6.5 million meters in July. Baotek, which currently has a total of 380 weaving machines, had already announced that it would install an additional 120 weaving machines at its plant in Yangmei, northern Taiwan in the second quarter of 2011 to expand its glass fabric capacity by 50%. The company also said that it will place a heavy emphasis on higher-end products in 2011 to support customers needs. Japan-based Nitto Boseki, which holds a 14.88% stake in the company, is said to be partnering with Baotek. According to Baotek, its thin and ultra-thin fabrics are being validated for use in HDI boards for smartphones and tablet PCs. The company expects increasing shipments to the sector to up its profitability in the second half of 2011. Fulltech Fiber Glass also disclosed plans to double its glass fabric capacity, and increase its annual production of glass yarns to 81,000 tons in 2011.
